Rambo III is a fun shoot 'em up. If you've ever fancied yourself in any of Stallone's roles, this is the game for you. As with the man himself, there's nothing sophisticated about this game. This one's all action.
This game's based on the classic Sega game that was out on the Mega Drive in the late 1980s rather than the arcade game of the period which was a rail shooter like Operation Wolf. The same bird's eye view is used in this updated version of the 1980s shoot 'em up game. As with the John Rambo that Stallone plays, your version is best when equipped with a machine gun that fires rounds out in a massive spray. Secondary weapons include a knife, an explosive and a bow and arrow that can be built up for more destruction.
If you're looking for something with sophisticated graphics and the sort of immersive game play found in games in the Call of Duty franchise, look elsewhere. What you're getting here is a basic but fun game that's really only one stage up from space invaders in terms of its complexity.
There's enough variety to keep most players interested for a while. In some missions Rambo has to free POWs, while other missions involve you destroying stockpiles of ammo. When you complete a mission you'll find a first person game which is a little more modern but also involved blowing stuff up. This time soviet helicopters and tanks rather than ammo stockades need Rambo's attention.
Pros
- Good gameplay variety
- Easy to pick up and play
- Loads of mayhem like the movies themselves
Cons
- At just 2MB there's not enough to the game
- Only 7 levels of play
